St. Joseph Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral located in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. It is the seat of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990.

History

St. Joseph Parish was founded in 1792 and the present church building was begun in 1853.[2] The church became a cathedral after Blessed John XXIII established the Diocese of Baton Rouge on July 20, 1961.[3] The church underwent a renovation in 1967 and was consecrated as a cathedral in 1970.[2]
